Veneers

One of the most popular ways of improving your smile is via the use of porcelain veneers. In some cases, some of the tooth might need to be reduced to allow space for the veneer however in others the porcelain can be added directly to your existing tooth with no preparation required.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are used to improve the appearance of your teeth. They can be used to improve the colour or shape of the teeth. They can even be used to hide spaces or give you that younger looking smile you might have always wanted.

Do my teeth need to be drilled down to have Veneers?

Most patients fear having to have their teeth drilled down into small stumps. This is a myth and when veneers are done properly the amount of tooth reduction is very minimal or sometimes none at all.

Does it hurt?

Not at all. As the preparation is generally very minimal sometimes no anaesthetic is required at all. If some preparation of the teeth is required, then small volumes of local anaesthetic may be used.

How will I know what they will look like?

The reason we have so much success is down to our planning. We will always have a wax diagnostic set up made of the teeth which we term a trial smile. This wax version of your new smile will be made before we begin any preparation of the teeth so that you have the opportunity to see your new smile before we begin treatment.

How will I know what colour to choose?

For all of our cosmetic cases we will always have the involvement of our head ceramist to ensure that the colour is discussed in detail prior to beginning. Whitening your teeth prior can allow for you to reach a shade that you are happy with prior to selecting the final shade of the porcelain for the veneers. This ensures the final result will be the best possible.

Alternatively, if we are performing a full smile makeover including the upper and lower teeth and shade can be selected. This is where the brightest white shades can be achieved to give you a celebrity smile.

How do I clean my natural tooth underneath the Veneer?

Veneers function as normal teeth and hence they need to be treated with care. You will still need to maintain an excellent cleaning regime at home as well as visiting our therapists to allow for professional cleaning.
